Luke 2:11-12 “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.”
Every parent teaches children the difference between hearing an instruction and really hearing, which is evidenced by doing. It’s the difference between hearing with the ears and hearing with the heart. When the Bethlehem shepherds heard the words of the angel about the birth of Jesus, they heard with their hearts. They immediately said, “Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing, which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us” (Luke 2:15).
They heard and responded, then added a third obvious step: After seeing Jesus, “they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child”. (Luke 2:17). They heard, they responded, and they told others the Good News of Christ’s birth.
What better time than this Christmas Season to be reminded of our responsibility to tell others the Good News of Christ’s entrance into the world: hear, respond, and tell.
We had a very busy month with the refurbishing of the church pews. We thank everyone that helped with the preparation for the project. We had service in the fellowship hall while we were unable to use the pews. The upholstered pews add to the look of sanctuary, and we thank God for his blessing.
A few of us attended the Pennsylvania State Sunday School Convention where there were workshops on how to be effective in teaching Sunday School classes. Thank you, Kathy Sweeney, for teaching one of the Sunday School lessons and Rev. Mark Sweeney for preaching during the month.
We had a wonderful praise service on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. We have much to be thankful for.
Christmas, a time of wonder and joy,
A time to celebrate the birth of a baby boy.
A child innocent and true,
A child sent as a gift to save me and you.
This wonderous story has reached all corners of this globe.
A king is born but one who doesn’t wear a royal robe.
He will grow to teach and to love.
He will spread the word of his father above.
His gentle ways and his touch will turn water to wine.
This newborn child is wonderous and divine.
His word will be placed in a book for all to read.
His words will help heal all those who are in need.
This is a gift, no price to ever be given.
And even after death he will be risen.
His cries can be heard by all living things.
This beautiful baby will grow to be king.
